How do I get this custom prescription formula?

Simply click the “get started” button, complete an online questionnaire-based consultation, and check out. A Strut Health provider will review your information and make sure this is an appropriate treatment for you. Then, once approved, your medication will be put together at a U.S. pharmacy and shipped to your front door.

What active ingredients are in Dutasteride Custom Hair Loss Formulas?

Strut Compounded Topical Dutasteride Formula: Dutasteride, Minoxidil, Tretinoin, Fluocinolone, & Biotin in a prescription-strength compounded gel formulated for adhesion to the scalp. Your healthcare provider will choose the ingredients and strengths that are best suited for you and your hair loss goals. Strut Compounded Dutasteride Capsules: contain Dutasteride and Biotin. Note: Biotin is a necessary component of these formulas and cannot be removed. Commercial Dutasteride Capsules: Non-compounded commercial capsules that contain only Dutasteride.

How should I use Dutasteride Custom Hair Loss Formulas?

Strut Compounded Topical Dutasteride Formula: Use the medicine exactly as directed. Using more medicine or applying it more often than prescribed will not make it work any faster, and may increase side effects. Do not take by mouth. Avoid getting this medication in your eyes or mouth, if this does occur, rinse with water. Apply once daily at night to dry, clean scalp, and wash hands after application. If taking the larger dose, apply twice daily, morning and evening to dry, clean scalp and wash hands after application. Wash any non-treatment area that this medication may have accidentally come into contact with to avoid unwanted hair growth. Allow to dry thoroughly and wash off in the morning, or after at least 4 hours. You may need to take Dutasteride for 3 months or more before you start seeing the benefits. You will need to continue the medication to keep your hair growth results. Strut Compounded Dutasteride Capsules or Manufactured Dutasteride Capsules: Take your dose of Dutasteride capsules by mouth at the same time each day. You may take Dutasteride with or without food. If you miss a dose and are only off by a few hours, you may go ahead and take your missed dose. However, if you missed a dose and it has been more than a few hours skip your dose and continue on like usual the next day. Dutasteride will not work better if you take more than 1 daily, so take Dutasteride capsules exactly as prescribed and never take an extra dose. You may need to take Dutasteride for 3 months or more before you start seeing the benefits. You will need to continue the medication to keep your hair growth results.

How do Dutasteride and Finasteride differ?

Dutasteride and finasteride are both 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors that reduce the conversion of testosterone to DHT. Dutasteride inhibits types 1, 2 and 3, while finasteride primarily inhibits types 2 and 3 (Yamana et al., Hormone Molecular Biology and Clinical Investigation, 2010). A healthcare provider can help determine which treatment may be appropriate based on your individual needs.

How does each Dutasteride Custom Hair Loss Formula work?

Strut Compounded Topical Dutasteride Formula: Strut Men's Dutasteride Hair Formula is a compounded prescription topical that may include dutasteride along with other prescription and nonprescription ingredients selected by a licensed healthcare provider based on your individual needs. Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that may help lower DHT, an androgen associated with male pattern hair loss.* Minoxidil has been studied for its role in hair growth. Tretinoin, a Vitamin A derivative, may be included in certain topical formulations to aid this process, while fluocinolone is a topical corticosteroid that may be prescribed when acute inflammatory scalp symptoms are a consideration. Your healthcare provider will determine which ingredients and strengths, if any, are appropriate based on your medical history and treatment goals. Strut Compounded Dutasteride Capsules or Manufactured Dutasteride Capsules: Dutasteride is a 5-alpha reductase inhibitor that reduces the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is one of the androgens associated with the development of male pattern hair loss. Dutasteride has been studied for male pattern hair loss but is not FDA-approved in the United States for this use. When clinically appropriate, a licensed healthcare provider may prescribe Dutasteride off-label after considering your medical history, treatment goals, and other relevant factors. Note: Compounded formulations are prepared pursuant to a patient-specific prescription and are not FDA-approved.

Does topical Dutasteride have good scalp absorption?

Dutasteride is a larger molecule than Finasteride, so it may not absorb into the scalp as readily as topical Finasteride formulations. To help with this, our compounded topical Dutasteride formula is made with DMSO, which may help the formula penetrate the scalp, and may include Tretinoin, which has been studied for its potential to increase absorption of topical hair loss ingredients like Minoxidil. Some patients use the formula along with a microneedling device, which may help enhance penetration. Ask your provider whether microneedling is appropriate for you.

If I'm currently using another hair loss product, will a switch cause shedding?

Typically, there is no shedding period if you are switching from an oral Finasteride or Dutasteride to topical Finasteride or Dutasteride, or from a topical to an oral form. However, if you have been using a topical minoxidil product and you are switching to a medication that does not contain Minoxidil, you may see shedding. To avoid temporary shedding when switching, you can gradually taper off your minoxidil over 6 to 8 weeks, or simply ensure minoxidil is included in your new custom blend.
