Frequently asked questions

What are GLP-1 medications?

GLP-1 medications are innovative treatment options that can be used for diabetes treatment or weight loss treatment. Here at Strut Health, we only prescribe GLP-1 medications for weight loss treatment. GLP-1 medications work with your hunger, digestion, and mental cues to help regulate your appetite and how fast food moves through your system. For some people, these functions may translate into significant weight loss when used appropriately and as prescribed. The GLP-1 class of medications includes semaglutide, tirzepatide, and liraglutide.

How does the Strut GLP-1 consult work?

The Strut GLP-1 consult works by pairing you with a U.S.-licensed doctor who will review your information from the questionnaire to make sure a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you. If it is, a prescription order will be put together with the best GLP-1 medication for you, and either fulfilled through our pharmacy network or sent to the pharmacy of your choice. Note: The cost of the GLP-1 consult includes the consultation fee only, any additional cost of the medication itself is not included in this fee.

What medications are available through the GLP-1 consultation?

We have a wide range of GLP-1 medications, and your provider will select the one that is the most appropriate fit for your needs. The active ingredients may include semaglutide, tirzepatide, or liraglutide. Oral and injection options are available based on medical necessity. You can let us know if you have a preference within the questionnaire.

Can I get my medication filled at my current pharmacy?

For certain GLP-1 medications, you may be able to get the prescription filled at your usual pharmacy. You can give us the information for your preferred pharmacy in the questionnaire, and your prescription order can be sent there for filling (if treatment is appropriate for you). Note: The consultation fee does not include the cost of medications filled at other pharmacies, and they will let you know your cost for your medication upon filling the prescription.

How much does the Strut GLP-1 consultation cost?

The GLP-1 consultation costs $41 for your first month. Each additional month is as low as $79/mo for a 3-month commitment ($199 total). This is a consult only and does not include the cost of GLP-1 medications. However, if a medication from us is appropriate for you, there will be an additional cost for the medication. All medications require eligibility and a prescription. Plans auto-renew at the end of the applicable plan period. While you may cancel your subscription at any time, cancellation will not go into effect until the end of your 3-month commitment plan.

Can Strut help me locate a cost-effective GLP-1 option?

Yes, the Strut Health team will assist in finding you a very competitive price. We work closely with the industry-leading wholesalers to locate the appropriate GLP-1 medication for you at a great price.

How do GLP-1 medications work?

GLP-1 medications work by mimicking the GLP-1 hormone in your body. By mimicking GLP-1, they can help deliver certain effects, including increased insulin release, less glucagon release, slowing how fast food can leave your stomach, and making you feel less hungry. For people who are trying to lose weight, these effects may combine to help them eat fewer calories and ultimately lose extra weight.

How long do GLP-1 medications take to work?

Once a GLP-1 medication is in your system, you may start feeling the effects of being less hungry, or feeling like your food is staying in your stomach for longer. However, these effects may take a little longer for some people to feel. If you are using GLP-1 medications for weight loss, be patient, since even if the medication is helping you consume fewer calories, it may take many weeks or months to physically see changes.

What should I tell my doctor before starting a GLP-1 medication?

Before starting on a GLP-1 medication, you should let your doctor know about any weight-related diseases or problems you are currently experiencing (high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes). You should also let your doctor know about any gastrointestinal issues or diseases you are dealing with, since GLP-1 medications may also come along with gastrointestinal side effects. Let your doctor know about a history of thyroid cancer, glandular tumors, diabetic ketoacidosis, pancreatitis, gallbladder disease, kidney disease, mood disorders, or diabetic eye problems.

What should I avoid while using GLP-1 medications?

While you are using GLP-1 medications, you may want to avoid other medications in the same class of drugs (GLP-1 agonists). Your doctor may also ask about other medications that you are using that can decrease your blood glucose levels, like diabetes medications. You may want to avoid high-fat foods, foods with lots of added sugar, trans and saturated fats, processed carbohydrates, and foods with high sodium. Not only may these foods hinder your weight loss and health goals, but they may also bring more digestive discomfort while you are using these medications.

What are the common side effects of GLP-1 medications?

The most common side effects of GLP-1 medications involve your digestion and gastrointestinal tract. Nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, fatigue, hypersensitivity reactions, burping, hair loss, and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) may occur. Other common side effects may include headache, dizziness, tiredness, and low blood sugar levels in people who have diabetes.
